Finn Wolfhard has revealed that some episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will be as long as a feature film.

Since season 5 only consists of eight episodes, fans have been hoping for longer runtimes to make up for the shorter episode count. Now Finn Wolfhard has provided new insights into the length of the final season.

Finn Wolfhard Addresses Stranger Things 5 Episode Runtimes

Finn Wolfhard is recently been promoting his upcoming film “The Legend of Ochi.” He recently spoke to Collider and was asked about the length of season 5’s episodes.

“It’s definitely a long season. Not every episode is like a full-blown movie, but there are definitely some episodes this year that the runtime is definitely film-length. When all that adds up,I guess they are like little micro-movies. But there are some episodes that are still 40 minutes, 45 mins.”

The actor also defended the episode length saying that it was necessary to properly conclude each character’s story.

“To end a show that people have been watching for a long time,you want every character to have the best kind of ending. And in order to do that, you have to take the time to do that.”

While it’s exciting to hear that some episodes will be as long as a film, the revelation that others may be only 40 to 45 minutes is somewhat concerning. With just eight episodes, many fans expected each one to be at least an hour long.

For comparison, season 4 had nine episodes, each running over an hour. The epic finale had a runtime of 2 hours and 19 minutes—longer than many blockbuster films.

Finn Wolfhard Recalls Reading the Final Episode

Finn Wolfhard also discussed reading the script for the final episode, revealing that it was an incredibly emotional moment for the entire cast.

“I read it with the cast and it was unbelievably emotional. We cold read it. We’d never read it before, so this was the first time we were all reading everything, and so it’s very overwhelming and really special. It was definitely one of those things that was much more emotional than I thought it was going to be. But I’m really happy about it and excited for it to come out.”

The final season of Stranger Things is set to debut this year. While no official release date has been announced yet, some leaks have claimed that season 5 will premiere on November 27, 2025. Meanwhile, What’s On Netflix has suggested that the final season will be split into two parts.
