One of the major questions on Stranger Things season 4 was whether or not Will Byers is gay. The answer has seemingly arrived in volume 2.
Over the last four seasons, fans have been curious regarding Wills's sexuality. In season 1 he was stuck in the Upside Down and later he becomes a victim of Mind Flayer. He managed to survive however it was evident that he is different from his friends. There were more hints in season 3 especially when Will (Noah Schnapp) got frustrated with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) spending so much time with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
After season 3, viewers have questioned if Will is gay in Stranger Things. Season 4 has focused on Robin's love life after confirming she is a lesbian in season 3 so it was hoped that Will Byers sexuality will also be addressed.
Now that the final two episodes have been released, we can talk if Will Byers is gay.
Yes, Will Byers is gay in Stranger Things. He doesn't formally come out as gay during volume 2, but the show has basically confirmed it. They have also shown that he is in love with Mike. The big reveal comes into episode 8 as part of a discussion between both friends. Mike tells Will about his doubts that Eleven loves him, which gives Will an opportunity to profess his feelings for Mike as a means of explaining why Eleven cares for him.
Will also shows his painting, which was one of the mysteries of Stranger Things season 4, volume 1. The painting shows a group of knights fighting a three-headed dragon and features Mike as the lead of the group. Will repeatedly calls Mike the heart of the group. Will talks about how hard it has been for Eleven in California since she is different, it becomes evident that Will is also talking about his own experiences and feelings for Mike.
Will then says, "When you're different, sometimes you feel like a mistake. But you make her feel like she's not a mistake at all. Like she's better for being different and that gives her the courage to fight on".
Will's heart is broken at this moment, though, as Mike does not understand his feelings. Meanwhile, Will attempts to hold back tears as he looks out the car window. It is the closest Stranger Things has come to confirming that Will Byers is gay. Viewers were able to pick up this just as Jonathan does, which leads to a heartfelt conversation between the brothers in the finale. Will does not come out to him, but there is a sense that they both know the truth.

After basically confirming that Will Byers is gay, the question is how this will impact season 5. The season 4 ending has hinted that Will Byers will a major role in the show's final season. So it will be interesting to see the impact of Will Byers sexuality on Mike and Eleven's love life.
