Is That Young Mike in the Upside Down? Stranger Things 5 Teaser Sparks Fan Debate
Now that the Stranger Things 5 teaser is finally out, fans are in detective mode by analysing every frame and speculating new theories.
Among all the exciting and emotional moments, one scene in particular has sparked a debate in the fandom.
Who is the Mysterious Boy in the Teaser?
Stranger Things season 5 teaser was dropped two days ago, and it’s packed with emotions, action, and epic moments. One of the shots featured a young boy leaping from one tree to another tree, escaping from a demogorgon in the Upside Down. While his face was not clear, it resembled young Will Byers from season 1 as he is wearing the identical outfit.
Last year, a behind-the-scenes clip showed a young actor portraying Will Byers falling from a tree. It confirms that the flashback is part of season 5.
It’s widely believed that the final season will include flashbacks to Will’s original time in the Upside Down. These scenes might finally reveal what really happened to him during his time in the dark dimension and how he managed to survive for a whole week. It could even reveal the mysteries of the Upside Down.
Why do Some Fans Think It is Mike Wheeler
However, some fans are convinced that the young boy in the teaser isn’t Will but Mike Wheeler. If you zoom in, adjust the brightness, he kinda resembles young Mike. Look closely and you might notice that his facial features and nose to Mike from season 1.
That raises a major question: What would Mike be doing in the Upside Down?
Some theories say that Season 5 will go back in time to the exact day when Will Byers was taken by the Demogorgon. We know that the Upside Down is frozen in time on the same day, November 6, 1983. If that’s the case, young Mike could be part of the timeline.
Although the boy does bear some resemblance to Mike, we are almost certain that it’s meant to be young Will Byers.
Evidence It Could Actually Be Young Will Byers
Stranger Things had hired a new actor to play young Will Byers in season 5. Last year, Noah Schnapp shared a behind-the-scenes photo of himself lying next to the young actor in full costume. It gave us our first glimpse of Will’s younger self in the upcoming season.
Interestingly, the new young Will does resemble Mike a little, which could explain the confusion. The creators will likely refine the look using CGI during post-production. They had already done that with the young Eleven scenes in season 4.
While the scene likely features Will, the door is always open for surprises as Stranger Things is known for having shocking twists and reveals.
