Stranger Things will end with season five which will complete the storylines of the major characters. Now that we know Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is gay, a new fan theory suggests he will turn against Eleven out of jealousy for the sake of Mike Wheeler's affection.

Will Byers had to suffer a lot in the series. In season 1, he was stuck in the Upside Down and was possessed by Mind Flayers in season 2. Apart from that, he is struggling with his sexuality. He got so upset every time Mike and Eleven became close and it seemed that he was jealous of their relationship. In season 4 he had an emotional moment with Mike who is oblivious to his feelings.

After the release of season 4, Noah Schnapp confirmed that his character is gay. He told Variety: "Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100 per cent clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc. I think it is done so beautifully because it’s so easy to make a character just like all of a sudden be gay."

Now this theory suggests that as Mike is not able to understand Will's feelings for him, it may force Will to become even more jealous of his relationship with Eleven and this could turn Will against Eleven. Some people are speculating that Will Byers is turning evil in season 5 so he might be going head-to-head with Eleven herself. Will could start to turn away from Eleven as he’s unable to stand being around her. He seems to have a good relationship with Eleven but his feelings for Mike might become too strong for him to ignore.

The ending of season 4 also confirmed that Vecna is connected to Will. Vecna preys on trauma and guilt and Will already has trauma from Seasons 1 and 2 and on top of that, he’s in love with his best friend who doesn’t even notice. So it would be very easy for Vecna to get inside Will’s head and offer him to be his ally and punish Eleven for hurting him.

We already know that Will Byers is the focus in season 5. It could be that he turns his back on Eleven for the majority of the season, but has a change of heart at the last minute. He may sacrifice himself for the greater good if it means his friends get to live.
