Netflix released a trailer for volume 2 of season 4 hinting that death is on the horizon. The trailer was full of menacing threats by Vecna who promises the characters will lose everything.
Stranger Things 4 got pretty dark but the show's creators say it’s about to get even darker. During an interview with Empire Magazine, the Duffer Brothers said: “don’t say we didn’t warn you” about the upcoming season finale.
“I don’t really want to say, but I would be concerned about the characters going into Volume 2, for sure,” said Ross Duffer. “I hope that that is sort of the sense because it is a darker season and the kids are no longer kids. And there’s sort of an ominous feeling that things might not go well. Now, whether they do or not, you’ll have to watch.”
The Duffer Brothers have also hinted that the character's plans to take on Vecna may not work out. “One of our favorite things in horror films is seeing our protagonists be proactive,” said Ross. “You know in The Lost Boys when they decide to go after the vampires? It’s fun to see people come up with a plan and try to outsmart the villain. That’s what Volume 2 is about. But of course, not everything goes to plan…”
Noah Schnapp in an interview on The Tonight Show said, “You can expect from volume two, we’ve got some deaths coming”. But who will die, it remains to be seen.
David Harbour’s Hopper appears to be the safest character. Harbour’s prison ally Dmitri (Tom Wlaschiha) and Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) can die which would be a shock for Hopper and Joyce. It’s likely that the core group of kids will survive and will return for the final season. From the young adults, Steve or Eddie is likely to die.
