Stranger Things has revealed multiple times that Will Byers has some connection to the Upside Down and Vecna. With Season 5 on the horizon, fans believe will likely explore the full depth of Will’s relationship with the dark dimension. Could he even have superpowers? All signs point to yes.

While the Stranger Things 5 teaser does not give away much about the plotline, it does suggest that Will Byers will play a crucial role in defeating Vecna. In one scene, Will appears to be mentally connected or possessed by Vecna. The question is how can Hawkins’ crew use Will’s connection to defeat the ultimate villain?

Will Byers Have Superpower Theory Explained

Many fans have speculated that Will possesses powers he doesn’t even know about. But how is that possible?

Let’s go back to Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the stage prequel that revealed Henry Creel was taken to the Upside Down as a child in 1959. After he returned, he began showing signs of supernatural abilities. It is believed that his time in the Upside Down transformed him physically and mentally.

Similarly, Will Byers also spent an entire week in the Upside Down. It’s not a stretch to believe that Will may have developed powers of his own. His powers may be greater than Vecna’s, given how long he was exposed.

Why Haven’t We Seen His Powers Before?

A major mystery is why Will Byers has not shown any clear powers in the earlier seasons. A wild theory says his memories could have been suppressed or altered in some way so that he does not remember the events of his time in the Upside Down. It’s worth noting that Will rarely speaks about his experience in the alternate dimension. Just like Eleven needed her lost memories to recover in Season 4 to regain her powers, Will may need to relive his trauma to unlock his true abilities.

We already know that Stranger Things 5 will include flashbacks of Will’s time in the Upside Down. These scenes could hold the key to revealing what he went through.

Another theory suggests that a chip was implanted in his neck to suppress his powers, just like Henry Creel.  That could explain why he often feels a tingling sensation on his neck whenever Vecna or the Mind Flayer is near.

Will Byers is a Sorcerer Theory

Stranger Things 5 Episode 4 is titled “Sorceerer,” and many fans believe it centers around Will. In fantasy lore, a Sorcerer does not learn magic through practice or training. Instead, they are either born with the powers or transformed by a life-changing event. If this theory holds, Will’s time in the Upside Down may have permanently altered him.

The new teaser trailer features several intriguing shots of Will Byers. In one scene, it appears that Will is attempting to invade Vecna’s mind. The Hawkins crew probably used Will as bait to lure Vecna. The lights flicker, which is always a sign of Upside Down activity. Later, Will collapses to the ground, perhaps from the strain of using his abilities.

In another scene, Will closes while Hopper’s voice says, “I need you to fight one last time”.  This could be the moment where Will Byers will finally unleash his powers.

Stranger Things has always used Dungeons and Dragons as a narrative mirror. In season 1, Mike, Will, Dustin and Lucas are playing D&D and face off with Demogorgon. The party urges Will to use the Fireball spell to defeat the monster.

Interestingly, the teaser ends with Vecna holding back a blazing wall of fire. Could this be Will Byers using fire-based powers, just like the Fireball spell from D&D? If true, Stranger Things could come full circle in the final season.,

One thing is for sure that Will Byers has some kind of superpowers. Season 5 will likely explore what they are and how they can be used to defeat Vecna once and for all.
