Why The Stranger Things Cast Skipped the 2022 Emmys

September 1, 2024

The Emmys 2022 ceremony will be held tonight, and Stranger Things season 4 is nominated for 13 Emmys this evening. However, the cast of Stranger Things will not attend the show.

Actors Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink were missing from the red carpet this evening. Apart from the kids, the show’s adults—Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, David Harbour, and Maya Hawke—weren’t spotted there either.

Sadie Sink, was at the Toronto International Film Festival with Taylor Swift on Sept. 9 and on her own on Sept. 11. Natalia Dyer was notably photographed at New York Fashion Week today, attending the Veronica Beard show. Maya Hawke is promoting her new film Do Revenge which comes out on Friday. David Harbour was seen promoting his role in Marvel’s Thunderbolts at Disney’s D23 Expo.

The main reason for the cast’s choice to skip the show is that they didn’t believe they were frontrunners in their categories, and they additionally had other commitments this week.

Sadie Sink gave an excellent performance in season 4 however she was not nominated for best actress. Stranger Things producer Shawn called Sadie’s Emmy Awards snub “ridiculous and unjust.”

“All of our actors did amazing work this season,” he continued. “But this season was really built to a large extent around the two female character pillars, Eleven and Max. Both Millie and Sadie stepped up and delivered career high performances, and I’m just looking ahead to the upcoming award season and the Guild awards to properly recognize the exceptional work that these two young actresses did.”
