Atlanta Filming has reported that filming for Stranger Things season 5 will conclude on December 22, 2024. As the filming began on January 9, 2024, the entire production process will span a full year.

The latest update will likely come as a disappointment to Stranger Things fans. A recent report from Forbes also indicates that the release date for Stranger Things season 5 is considerably farther away than anticipated.

Forbes has reported the possibility of a season 5 release sometime between May 2025 and August 2025. This would mark a three-year gap since the debut of season 4 in the summer of 2022.

The previous season was split into two parts due to ongoing post-production work. The final season will probably follow the same pattern. This strategy aligns with Netflix’s approach to many of its major shows, allowing for a timely release of content.

Considering all these reports, the final season is likely to debut in Summer or late 2025. Rumors suggest that season 5 may feature a Christmas theme, which will align with a potential release in December 2025. But if the season is split into two parts, there’s the possibility of releasing part 1 earlier.

The release date also depends on the absence of further production obstacles. Season 3 was delayed due to the pandemic, while season 4 was impacted by WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Fans will be hoping for a smooth production process for the final season.

Previously, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown shared that there were approximately nine months of filming remaining for the show. During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, she provided an update on the production status of season 5.

“We have nine months left… I really like Netflix, I’d like to be employed by them for a really long time, because I sign a piece of paper that tells me I’m not allowed to say anything, and I think I owe it to them to keep my mouth shut… I know what happens to my character. I haven’t read the script because they are in the process of writing them. I think I read up to episode 6. I know what happens to my character…. But like I said, I like working for Netflix, I’m going to be a good girl.”
