After the release of Stranger Things season 4, one of the major burning questions was if everyone in the show forgot Will Byers’ birthday. But what about the Stranger Things writers; did they also forget or was it intentional?

The much talked about scene happens in season 4 when Eleven is being bullied by Angela and her friends. One of their friend Jake (Logan Allen) was filming the scene with his camera. As we watch the camera recording, we can see the date March 22. That day is supposed to be Will Byer’s birthday.

However, no one even wished him on his special day. Apart from his friend, his family members Joyce Byers and Jonathan Byers also forgot. His birthday date was first mentioned by Joyce in season 2.

Did Stranger Things Writers Forget Will Byer’s Birthday?

Some of the fans thought that it was done intentionally to show that everyone was neglecting Will Byers. However, the writers have now admitted that they also forgot about the birthday date.

In a recent interview with Variety, Duffer Brothers answered the question. Matt Duffer said,

“The honest response is, clearly like the characters in the show, we also forgot about Will’s birthday. So the debate now is whether we adjust Will’s birthday or we just let it be really sad.”

Ross Duffer also chimed in saying that Stranger Things fans will now troll the writers.

Oh, my God, I almost don’t want you to write this because you’re going to get us in trouble with the fans for forgetting his birthday. It was six years ago that I wrote that date!

The Writers Will Change Will Byers Birthday Date

Later the writers explained that they would now change the birthday date of Will Byers. They will edit the scene with Winona and change his birthday to May 22nd.

Ross Duffer: Here’s what I think. I think what we’re going to do is we’ll go and George Lucas it.

Matt Duffer: We’re thinking his new birthday is going to be May 22nd, because “May” can fit in Winona’s mouth. So that would be us George Lucas-ing the situation.

Ross Duffer: Of course, that would mean his mom forgot his birthday! It’s too mean. It was obviously a mistake, and we’re sorry. We apologize to the fans.

It will now solve the mystery of Will Byers’s birthday. Also, you should not now blame Will’s family and friends because the creators of the show also forgot his birthday. The writers’ comments hint that his new birthday could be mentioned in the final season of Stranger Things.
