Stranger Things Fans Spot a Glaring Mistake in Season 5 Volume 2

December 27, 2025

In the world of Stranger Things, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the impossible: telekinetic teenagers, monsters made of melted flesh, and a dark dimension hidden beneath a sleepy Indiana town. But in the newly released Season 5 Volume 2, fans spotted something truly supernatural—a piece of clothing from the future.

Forget the Demogorgon; the internet is currently buzzing over a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” wardrobe malfunction that has viewers questioning the show’s legendary attention to detail.

The moment occurs during a high-tension sequence in Episode 7, as Holly Wheeler (played by Nell Fisher) finds herself trapped in the horrifying “Pain Tree” within Vecna’s lair. As Holly desperately struggles to claw her way out of the fleshy tissue, her sleeve pulls back to reveal a very familiar, very modern branding: the Under Armour logo.

For casual viewers, it’s a tiny detail. For the “Hawkins Historians” on social media, it’s a glaring anachronism.

Stranger Things Season 5 is firmly rooted in 1987. The brand Under Armour, however, wasn’t founded until 1996—nearly a decade after the events of the show. Unless Holly Wheeler found a wormhole leading directly to a 90s sporting goods store, there is simply no way she’d be rocking high-performance compression gear while fighting for her life in the Upside Down.

It didn’t take long for the screenshots to go viral on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit. Fans were quick to draw comparisons to the most infamous production oversight in television history: the Starbucks cup left on a table during the final season of Game of Thrones.

“Close enough, welcome back GoT Season 8,” one user joked, while others expressed genuine confusion over how such a high-budget production missed a logo during a close-up shot. The consensus? Even the Duffer Brothers aren’t immune to a “Monday morning” editing mistake.

Part of the magic of Stranger Things has always been its immersive 1980s aesthetic. From the neon glow of the Starcourt Mall to the specific grain of the wood paneling in the Byers’ home, the show usually treats historical accuracy like a religion.

While some fans are “pissed off” by the oversight, others are defending the crew. After all, the show is a massive undertaking with thousands of moving parts. A rogue logo on a child’s undershirt is a minor blemish on an otherwise visually stunning final season.

While some theorists love to reach for “time travel” explanations whenever a continuity error appears, this is clearly a case of a young actor wearing a comfortable base layer under a restrictive costume to stay warm or protected during a physically demanding scene.

Netflix has yet to officially comment, and they likely won’t. If history is any indication, they will quietly “digitalize” the logo out of the scene in a future update to the streaming file—much like HBO did with that pesky coffee cup.
