Netflix has revealed the first look at the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France.

Stranger Things is set to end later this year, but that does not mean our time in Hawkins is over. A new animated spin-off series has been in development since 2023. While the details of the series were initially kept under wraps, Netflix has now finally shown the first-look footage from Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

Stranger Things: The Tales from ’85 First Look Footage

At the Annecy festival, Netflix debuted about two minutes of footage and a pre-recorded Duffer Brothers message. They also shared the synopsis of the series:

Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an epic new animated series.

Though Netflix was very guarded about revealing too much, we still learned some important details from the footage. Here is what we know from the footage.

• The series is set during the winter of 1985, taking place between Season 2 and 3 of Stranger Things.
• Eleven, Mike Wheeler, Will Byers, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Max Mayfield and Jim Hopper were all in the footage.
• Scenes include familiar Hawkins locations like the lab in the school, at Hopper’s house, the local arcade, and outside Hawkins National Laboratory. One scene showed the kids riding their bikes, capturing the classic Stranger Things vibes.
• The series will introduce a new character named Nikki Baxter, described as “a tiner.” with short pinkish hair.
• It will introduce new monsters from the Upside Down.

The footage was exclusively shown to the audience at the Annecy festival and is not out to the public yet. It is expected that Netflix will officially release the first look pretty soon.

Stranger Things: Tales: Tales from ’85 will be released in 2026. The series is created by Eric Robles and is executive produced by the Duffer Brothers via their Upside Down Pictures banner, along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via 21 Laps.
