Gaten Matarazzo Says Stranger Things Should Kill More People

August 20, 2024

The filming for the final season of Stranger Things has commenced. We still don’t know about the plotline but that has not stopped fans from trying their best to get information from the cast.

At a recent appearance at Orlando’s MegaCon event, Stranger Things stars Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Grace Van Dien were asked questions about the show’s final season. While they did not reveal any details, Gaten expressed his desire to see more characters getting killed in the upcoming season.

According to CBR, Gaten was asked if he could legally disclose any details about Stranger Things 5. The actor responded humorously by simply stating, “That we’re making it.”

Later he was asked about the potential changes he would make to the show and that’s when he suggested that it should be much more violent.

“It might sound messed up but we should kill more people. This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like at any moment any of these kids can kick it. I feel like we’re all too safe.”

Millie Bobby Brown Says Stranger Things Cast is Too Large

This sentiment has been shared by other cast members as well. In 2022, Millie Bobby Brown told The Wrap that the ensemble cast of Stranger Things is too large.

“Last night we couldn’t even take one group picture because there were like 50 of us. I was like, you need to start killing people off. We need to have the mindset of Game of Thrones. Kill me off! They tried killing David off and they brought him back! It’s ridiculous…The Duffer Brothers are sensitive Sallies who don’t want to kill anybody off.”

Season 4 also encountered similar criticism as the only characters who were killed were those introduced in that season, such as Eddie Munson. Even Max, who ventured into the literal Upside Down and back survived.

Perhaps in the final season, some main characters will be killed, as there will not be as much pressure to keep everyone alive for the upcoming seasons. The Duffer Brothers have revealed to The Guardian that the final season will be filmed on the biggest scale.

“It’s the biggest it’s ever been in terms of scale, but it has been really fun because everyone’s back together in Hawkins. The boys and Eleven interacting more in line with how it was in season one. And, yes, there may be spin-offs, but the story of Eleven and Dustin and Lucas and Hopper, their stories are done here. That’s it…”
