Gaten Matarazzo Recalls a 40-Year-Old Mom Having a Crush on Him at 13

Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows in the world. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the young cast members often have weird encounters with fans of the series.

One such incident involves Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson. His character is beloved by fans, and his on-screen chemistry with Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson has been a highlight of the show.

The actor recently appeared on the Inside of You podcast, where he revealed an awkward situation. He recalled an encounter with a woman in her 40s who openly told him she had a huge crush on him in front of her daughter.

When Season 1 premiered in 2015, Gaten was only 13, which makes the situation even more unsettling. Here’s what Gaten said on the podcast,

“I did one very recently — and this is not very funny, but the reactions around it were quite funny — where this woman in her 40s said straight up, ‘I’ve had a crush on you since you were 13,’ And I was like, ‘That’s upsetting.’ I’m sure she just meant, ‘Aw, this kid’s cute.’ But then she doubled down.”

“She was like, ‘I’m aware of the age difference.’ And then I was like, ‘Alright,’” he continued. “And her daughter was with her, and her daughter goes, ‘Mom, what the fuck?’ I swear to God.”

This was not the first time a fan had crossed the line with him. The actor mentioned that when taking photos with fans he has experienced some inappropriate behavior. “I’ve had a few butt grabs for sure.”

Gaten is now 21 years old and is currently filming for the final season of Stranger Things. Despite occasional weired interactions with fans, Matarazzo noted that he’s grateful for the series as it has opened numerous opportunities for him.

“Those careers are always about peaks and values. With this show it is quite clear and I am very well aware — and would like my professional team — to understand that I am very OK with Stranger Things being very likely the biggest thing I will ever do. And it will most likely be the thing I am remembered for even if I consistently work after this.”
