Finn Wolfhard Confirms Season 5 Will Fix One Huge Criticism of the Show

Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard has revealed that the scale of the final season is much bigger. He has also disclosed that season 5 will fix one of the most significant criticisms of the series.

Finn Wolfhard, who is gearing up to release his upcoming film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, recently shared insights about the movie and Stranger Things in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He has revealed that the show’s final season will return to the dynamics seen in season 1.

“This last season is sort of a crossroads, and so we’re getting back into a lot of the dynamics of season one, which is really fun. There’s some ‘leader Mike’ moments, and it’s a very grand season, obviously. Every season has gotten bigger and bigger and bigger, and this season is huge, but it’s also kind of isolated as well.”

In season 4, Mike Wheeler was separated from most of the characters as he found himself in California with Will Byers and Eleven, with the rest of the gang remaining in Hawkins. This plotline received criticism from fans who were displeased with the original gang being split up. Wolfhard appears to share these sentiments.

“We really didn’t shoot very much for the first few months of production [on season 4], because they were so focused on all the Hawkins stuff. So I was really jealous. Even when I finally watched the show, my favorite part was watching the other guys in Hawkins. I just liked that storyline so much.”

However, the actor has confirmed that the final season will see them reunited as most of the storyline will be based in Hawkins.

“So, yeah, not being around everyone all the time was definitely a bummer about filming 4, but 5 is the opposite. We’re all together all the time, and a bunch of us live around the corner and across the street from each other in real life. So the cast is really seeing each other a lot, and we’re in a lot of the same scenes, which has been really great.”

In the final episode of season 4, Mike, Eleven, and Will returned to Hawkins. The season concluded with Hawkins in ruins, as Vecna successfully opened four gates. Now that the original gang has reunited, they will need to defeat Vecna once and for all.

Filming for the final season commenced in January 2024 after being delayed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While the release date has not been announced, it is unlikely to return before late 2025.
