Stranger Things may Change Will’s Birthday After Season 4 Plot Hole
In an interview with Variety, Stranger Things creators Duffer Brothers revealed that they’re open to fixing Will’s birthday mishap.
Fans have noticed that part of the new season marked events happening on March 22nd. An episode in season two of the series had Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) establish March 22 as Will’s birthday, yet none of the characters acknowledged the occasion in the latest season.
In a previous interview, the Duffer Brothers have openly admitted that they simply screwed up with the continuity of their own show: “The honest response is, clearly like the characters in the show, we also forgot about Will’s birthday. So the debate now is whether we adjust Will’s birthday or we just let it be really sad.”
Now in a recent interview, they are elaborating on their plans. Matt Duffer stated that they are considering going back and changing Will’s birthday to May 22 through retroactive dubbing of the line in the season two episode. Matt went on to say that “May can fit in Winona’s mouth,” making it the ideal month to change Will’s birthday to. “It’s too sad,” Matt Duffer continued. “And it doesn’t make any narrative sense. But we were talking about it yesterday, and I think we’re going to George Lucas that.”
They also admitted that they already made some digital alterations to Stranger things: “We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about.”
For those who don’t know “George Lucas” refers to the filmmaker’s history of going back and digitally altering scenes from Star Wars trilogy. Now the Duffer brothers are also open to altering an earlier episode in order to rectify the error.
