Netflix has finally dropped an exciting update on the much-anticipated animated Stranger Things spin-off.

As Stranger Things gears up for its grand finale with season 5 set to debut later this year, Netflix is making sure the Upside Down universe lives on. Given the show’s massive success and status as the platform’s most popular series, it is no surprise that the streaming giant wants to keep the franchise alive even after the original series ends.

Netflix Reveals Title for Animated Stranger Things Spin-Off

Last year, Netflix announced that an animated series based on Stranger Things has been in the works. Now it has been revealed that the series is titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

The Duffer Brothers, creators of the original series, shared their excitement in an interview with TUDUM.

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling.”

Produced under their Upside Down Pictures production banner, the series also brings back longtime collaborators Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps, alongside Eric Robles of Flying Bark Productions.

“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with –– the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues …”

While the plotline of the animated series is under wraps for now, the scripts have already been completed. Now the official title hints at a potential storyline set in 1985. Interestingly, it is the same year that Stranger Things season 3 takes place. It’s possible the animated series could explore untold events or side stories from that timeline.

This is not the only project expanding the Stranger Things universe. A prequel play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, is already being played on Broadway. Meanwhile, Stranger Things season 5 is expected to release in October 2025.
