Stranger Things Cast is Trying Not to Cry While Filming Season 5

November 8, 2024

The final season of Stranger Things is shaping up to be one of the biggest events in television history. According to Gaten Matarazzo, the cast is struggling to hold back their emotions as they approach the end of this beloved series, with many finding it hard “not to cry all the time.”

It’s hard to believe but it’s nearly been a decade since Stranger Things began filming in 2015. Over the years, the young cast has grown up together behind the scenes forming deep bonds as Stranger Things became an integral part of their life. It has made the end of this journey an emotional and bittersweet ending for everyone involved.

Stranger Things 5 Has the Longest Filming Process

Stranger Things 5 has been in production for 9 months and is expected to continue for another three. Matarazzo who plays Dustin Henderson, revealed that this has the longest filming process in the show’s history. He also revealed that the cast is finding it tough not to cry as they approach the end of the filming.

In an interview with MovieWeb, the actor spoke about the fifth season of Stranger Things.

“In past seasons, it was always a six to eight-month shoot. When we started this one, they said to get ready for at least a year, so we knew it was going to be a really long filming process. We’re already in month eight, where we are usually wrapping up, and we still got so much to do, but it has really flown by. I think that’s the greatest challenge is trying to savor every moment, and as we’ve gotten towards the home stretch of filming this, it’s been really hard not to just cry all the time for how much we love the show and each other.”

Stranger Things star also teased what fans can expect from the final season. He hinted that season 5 won’t waste any time and will pick up right where season 4 left off.

“It’s huge. I mean, we left Season 4 on an absolutely bonkers ending, very different from what we’ve seen the previous three seasons,” he says. “[Season 4] segues right into it. There’s no need for slow burn; we go right into it for [Season 5]… It’s just characters kind of dealing with the fact that in the last season, there were small victories, but, ultimately, they seemingly lost the battle. It’s a matter of trying to pick up those pieces and start from scratch.”

Lack of Deaths in Stranger Things

One of the recurring complaints from the fans has been the lack of major character deaths. In 2022, Matarazzo even commented that Stranger Things “should kill more people”. The sentiment was echoed by her co-star Millie B0bby Brown. Responding to these complaints, the Duffer Brothers said that they are not Game of Thrones.

When asked about this again in his recent interview, Matrazzo elaborated:

“I think that’s just a general feeling I have for shows… I feel way more invested in a group of people if I think there’s a potential to lose them . And I think once we go into Season 5 and we see how high the stakes are, we see truly what they are getting themselves into and realize that everybody is in constant, imminent danger . I think that’s going to make for a really compelling, fun season — a real nail-biter, for lack of a better term.”

Stranger Things season 5 is expected to release sometime in 2025.
