Recasting Stand By Me In 2021

Stand By Me is a classic coming of age film released in 1986. The film is based off a novella by Stephen King called The Body, and was directed by Rob Reiner. It was received very well by fans and received positive reviews. With the passage of time, the film has gained a cult status among fans. Stephen King called the best adaptation of his novels.

The movie features Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), who, as an adult, reads in the newspaper that his childhood friend Chris (River Phoenix) has been killed. He begins to write a recollection of a childhood adventure with Chris and their friends Vern (Jerry O’Connell) and Teddy (Corey Feldman) in which they go on a quest to find the dead body of a teenager in their neighborhood who had gone missing.

Stand By Me remains very much popular today and has inspired other works. Actors auditioning for roles on the Netflix show Stranger Things were asked to read lines from Stand by Me and one episode was titled “The Body” in homage to the source novella.

But if the film is remade in 2021, how will it look?
