Though it’s been three years since there was controversy regarding Millie Bobby Brown and Drake, fans continue to discuss the topic. In fact, some fans speculate that Drake addressed his friendship with Millie in his song “When to Say When.” But how did these two even meet and what do they talk about considering their significant age gap?
Drake is a massive fan of Stranger Things that featured Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven. The actress rose to enormous fame with her role in the show. Drake was also one of many fans of the show. The rapper revealed his liking towards the show and the two became friends.
For those who don't know, Millie Bobby Brown isn’t just a great actress but also a good singer. Hence there was an instant connection with rapper Drake. The Stranger Things star and Canadian rapper first met in Australia in 2017, and have been close ever since.
It was 2018 when Brown opened up on meeting the rapper during the Emmys interview and said, “I love him. I met him in Australia and he’s honestly a great friend and a great role model. You know we text. We just texted each other the other day and he was like ‘I miss you so much,’ and I was like ‘I miss you more,’ he’s great. He’s coming to Atlanta, so I’m definitely going to go and see him. I’m so excited.
When asked what she and Drake were texting about, Brown revealed that the rapper provided her with advice about boys. “About boys, he helps me,” she declared. “He’s great, he’s wonderful, I love him.” Millie did not share the particulars. “That stays in the text messages,” she stated.
Considering that there is a massive 18-year gap, Millie Bobby Brown and Drake were among the weirdest celebrity duos. Naturally, fans of Brown were concerned about their relationship. Later, clarifying the same in her Instagram story, Millie Bobby Brown wrote, “Why u gotta make a lovely friendship ur headline? U guys are weird . . . for real. I’m lucky to have people in the business extend their time to help me further my career and offer their wisdom and guidance. I’m very blessed to have amazing people in my life. U don’t get to choose that for me. It’s nice to have people who understand what I do. Now get back to talking about real problems in this world other than my friendships . . . jeez.”
At that time, Drake did not address the controversy. Later fans pointed to a song from the rapper as potentially being about that controversy.
On Feb. 29, 2020, Drake surprised listeners with two new tracks: "When to Say When" and "Chicago Freestyle." But it's a specific lyric on the former song that got people talking. Fans pointed to this song from the rapper as potentially being about that controversy. On it, Drake says, "Michael Jackson s--t, but the palace is not for kids / Still women sayin' it's childish the way we live." By saying "the palace is not for kids," Drake could be referring to that he's "fed up" with the allegations of paedophilia and is setting the record straight on his proclivities once and for all.
Regardless it seems like that the Stranger Things star is perfectly comfortable having a friendship with Drake. Even though it might be unconventional, we don't think there is any reason to judge them. As of now, the 17-year old actress has moved on and is working on many projects.
Millie Bobby Brown will reprise his role in Stranger Things season 4 which is expected to come out in 2022.
